Increased capabilities with new Citizen M32

Techno Group has taken delivery of a new larger capacity lathe at its Technoset facility in Rugby: a Citizen M32 V5 Sliding Head machine, increasing capacity and accuracy.

Replacing two smaller M12 and M16 Cincoms, the new machine joins a previous-generation M32-VIII. There are also eight twin-spindle, fixed-head Miyano bar-fed lathes onsite from Citizen Machinery, used for turning and milling components from stock up to 64mm in diameter.

LFV Technology

The revolutionary machine is equipped with the Citizen LFV (low-frequency vibration cutting) technology for swarf management, which reduces all problems caused by swarf entangling with the component or tool, and is effective for small-diameter deep hole machining and the machining of difficult to chip materials. This helps to ensure delivery dates are met and quality of components are maintained, ensuring that customers receive the full benefit of this new machine.

Fed by a three-metre bar loader, the M32 V5 also gives Techno Group the capability to run lights-out production, so output can continue to be generated without any human operations, giving the company full confidence in leaving the machine unmanned.

Adam Land, Techno Group Operations Director

“We decided to purchase the machine following the success of the M32 V4 machine we bought back in 2018. These two machines handle some of the most complex production work at our Rugby location, alongside the flagship 32mm capacity machines. The M32 V5 has truly been a revelation since being commissioned.”

Techno Group has also recently been working with CAM development company SolidCAM to engineer and program some of the components Techno Group produces, giving the company greater control of the machining strategy, as well as tools that will provide collision avoidance and will check residual material on the component following a machining operation.
